The collection contains the personal and business papers of Madam Walker and others who owned or worked for the Walker Manufacturing Company, company records of the business and related beauty schools and agents, and materials from businesses located in the Walker Building in Indianapolis. Personal papers include those of Walker, her daughter A'Lelia and granddaughter Mae Walker Perry, and managers Freeman B. Ransom, Robert L. Brokenburr, and Willard B. Ransom. The core of the collection contains business records of the Walker Manufacturing Company, the Walker College of Beauty Culture, and the National Beauty Culturists and Benevolent Society of Madam C.J. Walker Agents. Company records are not complete. Also included are photographs of individuals, groups, and properties; and company advertisements.
